How to Outfit your Mule... by CyborgSuzy How to Outfit your Mule... by CyborgSuzy
...for the Coming Post-apocalyptic Nuclear-Military-Coup-Zombie-Pandemic-Wars:

1. Gas mask. For safety, wear while traveling through low-lying areas, box canyons, and abandoned industrial zones.

2. Bit-less bridle. Allows mule to graze while on the move, and leaves more room on the muzzle for quick and easy gas mask attachment.

3. Tinted goggles to protect from dust, bright light, caustic gases, etc.

4. Keep your mule's mane trimmed to avoid tangling with reins/guns/crossbows during the heat of action. This has the added benefit of keeping your mule stylishly ';punk'.

5. Air filtering system for gas mask.

6. Weapon in easy-draw holster with pockets for extra shells. You may want to have a pair and keep one on each side.

7. Saddle with a horn of some kind will allow it to double as a pack saddle when you've got a lot of baggage to move. You may wish to add extra padding to the seat for long distance travel.

8. Extra blanket/jacket/cloak/towel/scarf/bullet proof vest/chain mail. Be prepared for any weather, even if it's raining zombies.

9. Saddles bags to store anything else you might need while traveling. A matching pair should easily fit binoculars, first aid kit, emergency rations, Geiger counter, hoof-pick and curry comb, water purifier, trade gold, small radio, lock-pick, extra throwing knives, and medium-sized aviator hat and gloves. For your mule's comfort and balance, be sure to distribute the weight evenly on each side.

10. Breeching. Provides extra protection against saddle slippage. Will also provide hand or foot holds during high speed chases when trick riding may be required, and/or assist in performing a running mount maneuver.

11. Breast collar to keep saddle from sliding back during long rides and/or high speed pursuits. Note that the air filtering system attaches to it.

12. Stirrups. Be sure to wear heeled footwear when riding. Knee high leather boots are best.

13. Leg wraps

14. Well-cared for hooves. When you're constantly on the move and trying to avoid the gangs of rogue-para-military-nuclear-zombies, it's easy to overlook your mule's hoof health. But, as the saying goes, 'no hoof, no mule'. Be sure to keep up a regular trim schedule, or you'll find yourself stranded and clod-hopping in the middle of zombie country. Shoes are optional, but you may consider some well-fitted rubber hoof covers, as this will provide grip even on wet pavement, stone, or metal surfaces and will protect against cuts and punctures.

Thank you. I think equines are under-represented in the zombie apocalypse genre. :D
